Broxbourne's £5 rise and England's lowest district charge
At full council on 24 February 2026, Broxbourne Borough Council added £5 a year to its own Band D charge, taking it to £168.24. The council says this keeps Broxbourne the lowest council tax of any English shire district, including parish precepts. Most of the £2,306.43 Band D total goes to Hertfordshire County Council and the police. The budget pays for refurbishing the John Warner Sports Centre and improving parks at Cheshunt Park, Goffs Oak, Barclay Park and Broxbourne Recreation Ground.
Council Tax Support: 75% maximum, capped at Band E

Empty homes and payment dates
A home that becomes empty and unfurnished gets 100% off for one month, with no limit on how often, as long as it has been lived in for at least six weeks in between. An inspection may be needed. The council's discounts page says homes empty and unfurnished for over two years are charged 200%. Broxbourne is reviewing empty properties with Capacitygrid, so expect a review letter if you own one.
Direct debits can be on the 1st, 15th or 25th of the month, over 10 or 12 instalments. If you don't choose, payments default to the 1st over 10 months. A family member living in a separate annexe gets 50% off.
