Salary packaging: the public hospital cap

How pay progression works
- Level 1 RNs/midwives progress one increment a year (1.1 β 1.8), recognising skills gained through experience (cl. 17(9)).
- Staff averaging 24 hours a week or less need a further 12 months per increment, unless they reach 1,976 hours (full-time equivalent) sooner (cl. 17(9)β(10)).
- Previous relevant nursing/midwifery experience counts when you are appointed; the onus of proof is on the employee (cl. 17(11)).
- Level 2 (clinical nurse) and Senior Registered Nurse levels are promotional positions; nurse practitioners are classified SRN/M Level 3 or higher by a work-value assessment (cl. 17(7)).
- Professional development allowance: $700 a year (Level 1.1β1.7), $1,100 (Level 1.8β2.4 and SRN 1β5), $1,400 (SRN 6β10) (cl. 60).
