GST payment schedule 2026: when do GST cheques come out?
The GST/HST credit is paid four times a year. The 2026 payment dates are Monday, January 5, 2026, Thursday, April 2, 2026, Friday, July 3, 2026, Monday, October 5, 2026. From July 2026 the benefit has a new name, the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit. The CRA says the "eligibility, payment calculation, and structure is the same," but amounts went up 25% for five years, from 2026 to 2031.
For July 2026 to June 2027, the maximum is $445 per adult, $445 for a spouse or partner and $234 per child under 19. Single people can also get a supplement of up to $234, so the CRA's headline maximum is $679 for a single person and $890 for a couple. The credit is reduced by 5% of adjusted family net income above $46,432. Your 2025 return sets the amount for the whole year.
Examples using our calculator engine: a single person with a 2025 net income of $50,000 is above the reduction threshold and gets about $500.60 a year, or $125.15 a quarter. A couple with two children and a family net income of $40,000 gets about $1,358.00 a year, or $339.50 a quarter. The remaining payments in this benefit year fall in January and April 2027. The CRA confirms the exact dates on its calendar.
CCB payment dates 2026
The Canada child benefit is paid monthly, usually around the 20th. It comes earlier when the 20th falls on a weekend, and in December it comes before the holidays. The 2026 dates are Jan 20, Feb 20, Mar 20, Apr 20, May 20, Jun 19, Jul 20, Aug 20, Sep 18, Oct 20, Nov 20, Dec 11.
For July 2026 β June 2027 the maximum is $8,157 a year for each child under 6 and $6,883 for each child aged 6 to 17. The benefit is reduced when adjusted family net income is above $38,237, and reduced more slowly above $82,847. For example, a family with one child under 6, one aged 6 to 17 and a 2025 family net income of $60,000 gets about $12,102 a year, or roughly $1,009 a month. Our CCB calculator shows other cases.

Which tax return sets your payments
Both the CCB and the CGEB run on a July-to-June benefit year and are recalculated every July. The CRA says the benefit amount "is recalculated every July based on the information from your previous year's tax return", so your 2025 return sets payments from July 2026 to June 2027. The CCB works the same way. A raise or job loss in 2026 does not change your payments until July 2027, after you file your 2026 return.
The CRA also recalculates mid-year when your circumstances change. For the CGEB, that includes a reassessment that changes adjusted family net income, a child turning 19, a change in marital status, a change in the number of eligible children or in custody, and the death of a recipient. Tell the CRA about a change in marital status or custody as soon as it happens, so the recalculation starts from the right month.
| Payments received | Based on | File by |
|---|---|---|
| July 2025 β June 2026 | 2024 return | April 30, 2025 |
| July 2026 β June 2027 | 2025 return | April 30, 2026 |
| July 2027 β June 2028 | 2026 return | April 30, 2027 |
Payment did not arrive? What to check
The CRA asks you to wait before calling: 5 working days after the payment date for the CCB and the Alberta child and family benefit, and 10 working days for the CGEB, GST/HST credit, ACWB and Ontario Trillium Benefit. Before you call, check these:
- You and your spouse both filed 2025 returns. Benefits from July 2026 are based on them, and the CRA stops payments if either return is missing.
- Your direct deposit details in CRA My Account are current, especially after changing banks.
- Your marital status and the children in your care are up to date. A change can trigger a recalculation and sometimes an overpayment.
- Your income has not gone above the phase-out, in which case the amount may now be zero.
Provincial benefits paid with federal ones
The CRA pays many provincial benefits too. The Ontario Trillium Benefit is paid monthly around the 10th. The Alberta child and family benefit is paid quarterly at the end of February, May, August and November. CPP and OAS are paid by Service Canada, not the CRA, usually in the last week of the month, with the December payment coming earlier.

Frequently asked questions
When is the next GST cheque?
Monday, October 5, 2026. From July 2026 the GST/HST credit is paid as the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit on the same quarterly schedule.
Do I have to apply for the GST/HST credit or CGEB?
No. File your tax return and the CRA checks your eligibility automatically. New residents of Canada need to apply separately.
Why did my CCB payment change in July?
The CCB is recalculated every July using the previous year's family net income. The July 2026 β June 2027 amounts use 2025 income and the indexed maximums of $8,157 and $6,883.
Are benefit payments taxable?
The CCB and the GST/HST credit (CGEB) are tax-free and do not go on your return. CPP and OAS are taxable income.
