Fylde's 4% rise compares with an England average of 4.9%. Councils responsible for social care can raise their own share by up to 4.99% without a referendum, districts by under 3% or £5, and police and fire bodies by fixed cash amounts — so the area total can move by a different percentage.

Special expenses: why Lytham, St Annes and Ansdell pay more to Fylde

Fylde Borough Council charges "special expenses" in Ansdell, Lytham and St Annes on top of its standard charge. It owns and maintains the parks and open spaces there, such as Ashton Gardens and the promenade gardens in St Annes, Fairhaven Lake and Gardens in Ansdell, and the Green in Lytham. Elsewhere in the borough, parish councils own that kind of land and charge for it through their own precepts. So the "Fylde Borough Council" line on a bill depends on where you live, and the £239.11 Band D figure shown on this page is an average.

The total change on 2026/27 bills therefore varies a lot by parish. It was 0.9% in Elswick, 4.0% in Lytham and St Annes, 4.1% in Ansdell, 4.4% in Kirkham and Medlar-with-Wesham, and 4.9% in Staining. Every 1% on Fylde Council’s own element raises about £79,000.

Empty homes, payment dates and help

Fylde has charged empty-home premiums since 2016. Under its rules from 1 April 2026, an unfurnished home empty for more than a year pays 200% (£4,415.89 on a Band C home), more than five years 300%, and more than ten years 400%. The premium page lists only premiums for unfurnished homes. Exceptions are not automatic: owners must apply with evidence, for example that a home has been marketed for sale at a reasonable price.

Direct debits are collected on the 5th, the 18th or the last day of the month. Most Fylde residents pay this way, and you can sign up for free text reminders.

You can apply for Council Tax Reduction if your savings are under £16,000. Working-age tenants should usually claim help with rent through Universal Credit, because the DWP does not backdate claims. The council can only pay Housing Benefit to pensioners and people in hostels, refuges, sheltered or supported housing.
