On 1 April 2024 the council ended two discounts: three months at 100% for empty, unfurnished homes, and 12 months at 50% for homes needing structural work. - The council may waive a premium if it would cause severe financial hardship to someone with a serious illness, disability or vulnerability. This is on top of the national exceptions.
- The empty premium stays with the property. If you buy a home that has already been empty for 12 months, you pay the premium straight away.
- Care leavers are directed to their Staffordshire County Council support worker, who may be able to help with the bill.
