Discounts and reductions

West Lindsey's 3.3% rise compares with an England average of 4.9%. Councils responsible for social care can raise their own share by up to 4.99% without a referendum, districts by under 3% or £5, and police and fire bodies by fixed cash amounts — so the area total can move by a different percentage.

West Lindsey has no second homes premium

West Lindsey District Council does not charge extra on second homes. It used to give second homes a 10% discount, charging 90%, but it ended that from 1 April 2024. Since then furnished second homes have paid the standard 100%, the same as empty, unfurnished homes. So a Band A second home, in the district's most common band (17,490 homes), pays £1,569.50 in 2026/27, not double.

The long-term empty premium also still starts after two years, not one. It is 100% after two years empty, 200% after five and 300% after ten. Owners genuinely trying to sell or let a home that has been empty for at least two years can apply for up to 12 months without the premium. Occupied caravan pitches and boat moorings get a 50% discount and no premium.

Flooding, payments and support

  • If flooding forces you to move in with someone else, or to live upstairs while repairs are done, your flooded home can get a 100% discount for up to 12 months. You need an insurer's, builder's or surveyor's report, or photos and a list of the work needed.
  • Bills are normally 10 instalments due on the 1st, from April to January, or 12 if you ask. Direct Debits can be taken on the 1st, 15th, 21st or 28th.
  • You cannot get Council Tax Support with more than £16,000 in savings, unless you get Pension Credit Guarantee.
