- Living alone: 25% off — a Band C bill in Wychavon drops from £2,109.50 to £1,582.13.
- Council Tax Reduction: Wychavon runs its own scheme for people on low incomes or benefits — rules differ from council to council in England.

Wychavon's 7.8% rise compares with an England average of 4.9%. Councils responsible for social care can raise their own share by up to 4.99% without a referendum, districts by under 3% or £5, and police and fire bodies by fixed cash amounts — so the area total can move by a different percentage.
Wychavon froze its share, so why did bills rise 7.8%?
Wychavon District Council froze its own Band D charge at £128.21 for 2026/27. The council says this is the seventh freeze in nine years and keeps it the district council with the fourth-lowest council tax in the country, at under £2.47 a week. Wychavon keeps only about 5p of every £1 you pay.
The 7.8% rise in the total bill comes from the other bodies. Worcestershire County Council, which takes about 74p in the pound, raised its charge by 8.98% with government permission under Exceptional Financial Support. Its share of a Wychavon Band D bill is £1,760.80. The West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner takes about 13p, the fire authority £107.22 at Band D, and parish and town councils an average of £70.46. Parish precepts vary between Evesham, Droitwich Spa, Pershore and the villages, so check your own bill.
Despite the freeze, the district is spending an extra £3.7 million on services in 2026/27. It has also set up a £5 million We Are Wychavon Fund over two years, put up to £4 million into decarbonising Pershore and Evesham leisure centres, and committed money to redeveloping the Riverside Shopping Centre site in Evesham.
Council Tax Support: up to 80% for working-age claimants
Working-age claimants can get up to 80% off. Help starts from the Monday after you apply, so you cannot backdate it. Pension-age claimants can get up to 100% and can backdate for three months. The capital limit is £16,000. A working-age household on the maximum award in a Band C home, Wychavon's most common band (14,760 homes), pays £421.90 a year.
If you are in short-term financial difficulty, you can apply to the council's Exceptional Hardship Fund. You can get help with a claim in person at Pershore Civic Centre on weekdays, Evesham Library on Fridays or Droitwich Spa Library on Tuesdays.
Empty homes, second homes and paying
An empty, unfurnished home gets 100% off for one month, then pays the full charge. New-build homes get three months free, and homes needing major repairs to be habitable get up to 12 months free. Wychavon's page says the long-term empty premium (a 200% bill) applies once a home has been empty and unfurnished for more than two years, unlike Worcester City, which moved to 12 months in April 2026. Since 1 April 2025, second homes have paid 200%, which at Band D is £4,746.38.
Billing is run by the shared South Worcestershire revenues service. Direct debits can be taken on the 1st, 10th, 15th or 25th of the month, normally over 10 instalments from April to January.
