Ceredigion set a £221.5 million budget on 2 March 2026. The council's own share rose 4.75%: 4.65% for services and 0.1% for the Mid and West Wales Fire Authority levy of £5.935 million. Band D for county purposes is £1,976.18, up £89.61. An early draft had an 8.9% rise. The Welsh Government's provisional settlement was a 2.3% funding increase. It rose to 4.1% after changes announced on 9 December 2025, and the council says that extra funding is the main reason the rise could be cut. Dyfed-Powys Police went up 7.47% and town and community councils 13.92% on average, so the average Band D bill rose 5.4% to £2,419.45.
Premiums and payment dates in Ceredigion
Ceredigion's long-term empty premium goes up with time empty: 100% for up to five years, 150% for five to ten years and 200% after ten years. Second homes have paid a 150% premium since April 2025. This includes self-catering lets that don't meet the rules for business rates. At the average Band D a second home pays about £6,048.63. The council first introduced premiums at 25% in 2017.
