|---|---|---|

Hillsborough's surtax extension from December 1, 2026
Hillsborough's 1.5% surtax includes a 0.5% local government infrastructure surtax that the Florida Department of Revenue lists as extended from December 1, 2026 until December 31, 2041. Another 0.5% (indigent care) runs until repealed and the 0.5% school capital outlay surtax expires December 31, 2028. The combined 7.5% rate does not change on December 1. The extension simply keeps the infrastructure levy in place.
With the median home worth $494,400, the Florida homestead exemption is worth about $834 a year at Tampa's millage. The first $25,000 is exempt from every levy ($496), but the second $25,000 is exempt only from non-school levies ($338), because the 6.34-mill school levy does not get the additional exemption.
